Singlehood is a place where
“pajama time” is the sweetest phrase
and the only the children are
traumatized by the fashion faux pas of
fuzzy booties and gray long-handles at six.
.
Singlehood is a place wherein
pickle chips and a sandwich
(old-fashioned tuna salad with more pickles)
and chicken & rice soup for dinner
makes for the perfect dinner.
.
Singlehood is a place of a nap
(aaah, the nap, the hoped-for nap, the longed-for nap)
and the giggly optimism of setting an alarm
for two hours and being quite happy
after just one.
.
The other pillow is still empty.
The pots and pans are still too large.
The clothes are still in the closet.
The wallet still on the dresser.
The quietest moment is still at waking.
